Week 08 — Likes, Challenges, and Three Burgers for Jellyfer
Challenges now follow the captain and passengers through each trip, turning everyday shipboard chaos into goals that reward careful play.
What changed
- The challenge system is now connected to the action. Completing objectives awards likes, and challenge progress updates while you play.
- Virgo Spacelines now rewards players for challenges such as cleaning the ship, fixing facilities, cooking meals, and completing a trip without letting the generator blow up.
- Passengers can bring personal challenges aboard. Jellyfer’s first request is simple in theory and demanding in practice: eat three burgers during a single trip.
- The passenger-capacity upgrade is now fully operational. Players can spend their hard-earned likes to unlock room for more travelers, with the upgrade screen clearly displaying the full cost.
- Ship interactions received another polish pass. Important objects have clearer icons, selection highlights are easier to read, and clickable areas are more forgiving.
- The demo ship was streamlined by removing the cosmetic control room, keeping the focus on rooms and facilities that currently matter to gameplay.
The new objectives give players more reasons to balance competing priorities during a trip. Cleaning, cooking, repairs, and passenger requests may all demand attention at once—and pursuing one goal can make another more difficult. Keeping Jellyfer supplied with burgers is much harder when the captain is busy preventing a generator disaster.
Behind the scenes
The challenge system has been the most complex part of Space Liner 77 to build so far. It needs to follow actions throughout the ship, update visible progress, remember long-term accomplishments between trips, handle passenger-specific objectives, and award likes when goals are completed.
Bringing all those pieces together took a lot of work, but it has already made the game much more fun. Everyday jobs no longer feel like isolated tasks: they now contribute to larger goals, create competing priorities, and give each trip a little more direction.
Next week
- Add personal challenges for more passengers. Barrba and Paul still need objectives of their own.
- Add more ship upgrades.
- Connect those upgrades to the like system, giving players more ways to spend the rewards earned from challenges.
